Taormina is such a beautiful city on Sicily’s Ionian coast. and it’s a favorite destination for me in Sicily. After the success of Season 2’s The White Lotus, the Emmy-award-winning series filmed in Taormina, this coastal resort town has become much more popular. At times, it can be inundated with tourists.
For a quiet reprieve from the crowds and the bustling Corso Umberto, the Villa Communale, or community garden, provides a welcoming and serene place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature while strolling through the park. Situated on Via Bagnoli Croce in the center of Taormina, it’s easily acccessible and free to enter.
It’s such a pretty area with beautiful landscaping, that I wasn’t surprised to see more than one wedding photographer during a photo shoot.
In the late 19th century, Florence Trevelyan, an Englishwoman who moved to Taormina, designed and created these public gardens for all of us to enjoy.
Besides the natural beauty inside the park, spectacular panorama views of the Ionian Sea and Mt Etna are an added bonus.
Strolling along the promenade with of view of nearby Giardini-Naxos and Naxos Bay felt so comforting.
These amazing structures in the garden were designed by Florence and are known as beehives or the follies. I’m intrigued by the architecture.
