Leopoldo dolci in Napoli

A pasticceria is a dream come true for anyone with a sweet tooth. I cannot walk past Leopoldo CafeBar without satisfying my craving for dolci in Napoli.

A dessert restaurant since 1940, this establishment is named after its founder, Leopoldo  Infante,  and is conveniently  located on Via Colonna, in the fashionable Chiaia neighborhood. The appealing selection of baked goods is incredible, and the moment I enter the shop, the aroma of vanilla and sugar is unmistakable.  Cakes, pastieri, zeppole, cannoli, biscotti, babà, and sfogliatelle are a few of the sweets on display. A huge counter covered in glass is filled with all kinds of delectable temptations. Wedding cakes line shelves on the wall, a sure sign that this is a serious bakery. Leopoldo’s—one more Neapolitan delight.

What is your favorite pastry in Napoli?

I’d love to hear your your thoughts. Please leave a comment

Ciao and grazie

I love Naples especially the National Archaeological Museum. I spent a summer painting the Italian landscape outside of Sorrento and would take the train over–loved the old Greek section with the Nativity workshops and of course, Pio Monte della Misericordia with it’s Caravaggio and the sweet, pious, ladies. I didn’t eat any pastries but did eat pizza!

What a wonderful summer that must have been, Karen. Yes I know the San Gregorio Nativity workshop street well….Such talent in one spot.

Sfogliatelle baby! They are my fave. I will have to check out Leopoldo next time I’m in Napoli. I love the ones at Attanasio straight out of the oven-but honestly even the ones from the street vendors are delicious 😋. Now I am craving a sfogliatella! Ciao, Cristina

Oddly, I never had a sweet tooth until I was in my 40s. I blame the discovery of frozen yogurt on my new hobby: eating sweets. I will say that I only eat high quality sweets. To be sure of only eating high quality sweets I would have to sample these goodies. Yes, all of them. Might take me a week, might need more time to eat, I mean test, each delightful morsel. Yessssss, very, very tasty!

AT least you are choosy in the selection….LOL Thanks again, Bonnie for leaving a comment.
