For all the times I’ve tried to describe the Amalfi Coast road, I could never really adequately explain what this short video shows so clearly. A classic example of “show, don’t tell.” Thank you, Coastal Living Instagram, for posting this cool video of Positano which received over 22,000 views in six hours. Enjoy. Please check out @coastal_living on Instagram. Don’t you agree, this video is spectacular? Now you know why the Amalfi Coast is my favorite place in Italy.
Have you been as spellbound as I have seeing these views as you took a ride on the Amalfi Coast road? Or have you had the misfortune to become sick from the numerous twists and turns of the road that you couldn’t enjoy it?
Please share your experience…I’d love to hear it, so I welcome you to leave a comment.

Elizabeth,
Thank you for asking. I myself wondered a lot about it. I actually did the hike myself in October of 2016. You can read about it in this post…My adventure on the Path of the Gods https://margieinitaly.com/2016/11/14/my-adventure-on-the-path-of-the-gods/
I would say it is challenging You need the right type of shoes and you have to be careful because the steps are quite steep… You’ll understand more once you read my other post. Good luck!
Elizabeth
Hi Margie……I’m going to be doing a Walking Amalfi Coast Tour in September……Do you know how challenging “Path of the Gods: walk is? I heard it’s very challenging to just a long walk with lots of steps…Do You know? or have you done the walk yourself? Thanks

Grazie Natale…My favorite place too…but I understand where your heart is since your home is Napoli, another fantastic place in Camoania. So glad I spent time there.

I closed my eyes. We were in a group led by the importer, VIETRI, and we commissioned a bus. There is nothing like going around the turns and not seeing the road beneath you as you look straight down. Very narrow and not room for two buses to share the road, that’s for sure. I was glad to reach our destination.
Margie Miklas
I completely understand…Your excursion sounds amazing though…Did you buy some ceramics in Vietri??

One of the best things that I have ever done including stopping for lemonade high over Positano. I always like this quote from John Steinbeck – “Flaming like a meteor we hit the coast, a road, high, high above the blue sea, that hooked and corkscrewed on the edge of nothing, a road carefully designed to be a little narrower than two cars side by side.”
Margie Miklas
Andres, that is a wonderful quote..Thanks so much for sharing…Yes the lemonade in that area is so refreshing!!!

I have a Zia in Salerno so have been to the area many times. The first time I was 11 and I remember taking a boat along the coast. I think we went from Salerno to Amalfi. I also remember my whole family almost drowning in a n overcrowded tiny boat on choppy seas in Capri..Papà took a movie camera and the scenes from the boat are hilarious-although we did not think so at the time! I have not been to Positano or hiked il Sentiero dei Dei, so would like to do that some day. Ciao, Cristina
Margie Miklas
Oh wow, Cristina…you have had some interesting experiences for sure..Hope you can get back there soon. Salerno is so lovely too..

I’ll have to see if I can figure out how to post that ‘ near death at the Grotta Azzurro’ home movie. It might inspire sea sickness😜
Margie Miklas
I’d love to see it, Cristina

It’s going on my ‘to do’ list!

Yes, got bus sick from twists and turns the first time on Amalfi coast. The second time was better as we saw the coast via a boat ride…so much more enjoyable and you could view the villages and countryside.
Margie Miklas
Thanks Dee Ann…I know a lot of people can;t handle the constant twists and turns…I also think the views from a boat are fabulous!! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Margie! To me, the coastal cliffs of Amalfi are as timeless as the wind. This past October/Nov I rode it via bus a number of times and learned quickly that Dramamine was my new best friend. I was thankful that I had not rented a car and attempted the drive it myself; even in the slow season those tour buses go fast and there is only one lane in many places, as you know! I did accidentally find myself walking the winding turns of that coastal road though, which was a harrowing adventure of it’s own 😉 I enjoy your stories and photos, thanks for sharing.
Margie Miklas
Thanks so much Suzette…I see you have had plenty of experiences..Glad you found that Dramamine works for you!
Tony
Absolutely incredible! I cannot wait to see and experience it myself…just 30 days away now! 🙂
Margie Miklas
Thanks so much, Tony….I’m excited for you and can’t wait to read all about your upcoming trip!!!

I loved it when we first visited in 2014. Will be returning this September to take in more of this place and beautiful country.
