Snow at Greek Theatre in Taormina, Sicily by @giovannicappuccino
Winter has definitely arrived in Italy, and the frigid temperatures and yes, even nevicata, snowfall, has reached the mezzogiorno, as far south as Sicily, even at low altitudes, along the coast. The Amalfi Coast had snow and Lecce and other towns in the Salento of Puglia were snow covered.
Enjoy these photos posted on Instagram, and other social media venues, of the snow in Italy.

Any thoughts? I’d love to hear your feedback, so please leave a comment, and if you have snow pics from Italy, feel free to share the link.
Grazie and Ciao.
I loved seeing these photos of snow from all parts of Italy. Check out my Instagram page for more photos from Italia like this one from Positano.

The snow fotos are so pretty. I hope my roof in Orsara di Puglia doesn’t cave in from the weight of all the snow though! Here in Vancouver we have had snow since December 5th….and we hardly ever get snow! It was fun fireproof a few days, but basta! I can’t wait till it’s all gone ☃️. Ciao, Cristina

Love the snow on the cactus! Hard to believe how large they get and how ubiquitous they are unless you visit southern Italy!

I love your photos but cannot believe the snow in Sicily. So much for leaving Florida to move there.
margieinitaly
Right…I guess it can snow anywhere! Thank you for sharing

I would have loved to share photos with snow, but I’m in Northern Italy and there’s not even the phantom of snow here 😂 The world has truly turned upside down xD
margieinitaly
So weird, isn’t it? It seems like southern ITALY got it all this time!! Thank you
fkasara
This actually happens when the bad weather comes from North: Alps protect us and it sort of avoid us to travel south. Now the weather front is coming from west (France), so it is probably going to hit us.

Great idea for a post! Incredible to see the snow on the beach. And Alberobello, have you ever been there, Margie? It’s magical without snow, I’m guessing it’s really like a fairy tale in the snow! Hope your new year is off to a wonderful start.
margieinitaly
Thank you Stacy…Yes I have been to Alberobello twice! Such unusual homes, the trulli!

Growing up in Milwaukee, I grew tired of long, cold, white and gray winters…it’s why I moved to Phoenix. Yet somehow, even snow and winter looks beautiful and quite tolerable in the bel paese. Great photos, thanks for compiling them and the post!
margieinitaly
Thanks Tony…Yes it is beautiful especially when you don’t have to shovel it or drive in it!
Andrew Petcher
Meanwhile in UK the weather remains unseasonably mild!
margieinitaly
Enjoy the mild weather while you have it Andrew..The UK has paid its dues

Do you know I didn’t think it snowed in Italy at all. How ignorant am I? Thanks for the photos Margie. Beautiful
fkasara
Actually in Italy we have some of the highest mountains in Europe and a lot of interesting winter resorts, especially up in the North 🙂
Debbie Robson
You see! I’ll just have to go back!

😀👍

So glad you enjoyed them Debbie… Northern Italy has amazing ski resorts in the Italian Alps. The Dolomites are famous for winter sports.

And isn’t that where Hemingway did some service in WWI?
Debra Kolkka
I wish I was in Italy right now to see some of these places covered with snow! I will be back in 6 weeks, I hope I get some snow.
margieinitaly
I’ll look forward to your photos of snow at Casa Debbio in the mountains, DEBRA
Bonnie Davis
I enjoy the pictures because they are beautiful but I will pray for the poor folks who have to tolerate S N O W (which means it is freezing cold)! May it warm up soon.
margieinitaly
I’m with you Bonnie but the skiers love it!

Great photos, I didn’t realise it snowed as far south as Sicily…
margieinitaly
I didn’t think it snowed on the Sicilian coast either. Thank you
Sherry Rentschler
These are beautiful! I saw so little snow when I was stationed in Brindisi. Winters brought mostly rain, so this is gorgeous to me. Thank you!

I didn’t realize you were stationed in Brindisi, Sherry. So glad you enjoyed seeing the photos I enjoyed finding all of them! GRAZIE

Unbelievable. Having been in many of those places, it is amazing to see snow on areas that were so hot when I visited them. Thank you, Margie, for the fantastic photo show.
margieinitaly
Thanks Dolly! I feel the same way..so odd seeing the places along the sea with snow!
Janet
