My first night in Italy already has me spoiled. My hotel accommodation in Milan is the height of luxury, the elegant five-star Carlton Hotel Baglioni. Having only seen photos and read posts about this Baglioni property, I now can say that I have my own first-hand experience as their guest.
From the moment I arrived I felt so welcome since everyone I spoke with greeted me as if I were family, from the front desk manager Francesca, to the general manager, Eugenio Rigo. Although it was too early to check in, and the 87-room hotel was full, the accommodating concierge, Signor Lino, kindly upgraded me to a grand deluxe room which was richly decorated in hues of burgundy and beige with a very modern look. I even had a Nespresso machine in my room, which had a balcony that looked out onto Via Senato. I could get used to this!
Located in the heart of the fashion district this five-story hotel is neatly tucked away with entrances on Via Senato as well as Via della Spiga. Once a privately-owned mansion, it became a hotel fifty years ago. Baglioni has been the owner for the past twenty years, and recently has renovated most parts of the property with very modern designs.
After a little sightseeing I returned to check in and freshen up. I was not that tired despite not really sleeping on the plane but a hot shower and change of clothes felt amazing.
The hotel’s look is rich with various colors of marble flooring, exquisite Murano glass chandeliers, and warm colors in its comfortable bar, Caffè Baglioni.
Breakfast and lunch are served here as on the outdoor patio. Another garden area just off the patio, has additional seating and offers the perfect ambience for a drink when the weather is right.
The Spiga 8 Spa opened recently, featuring private massage rooms, a gym, sauna and a steam room. Just walking into that area provided a soothing sense and the aromas made me want to linger longer.
The day concluded with a walk to a wonderful outdoor restaurant in Milan for a business dinner which was great, and then an after dinner drink at Caffè Baglioni. I had my first Rossini, made with prosecco and pureed strawberries. Delicioso! Tomorrow is a meeting with Baglioni executives and then I am off to Napoli via the Frecciarossa.
