I am excited because I am planning another trip to Italy! This one will be this fall, just after I retire from my nursing career. What a treat not to have to request time off and wait for it to be approved, (or not). I am starting to put together an itinerary and definitely Napoli is on my list. I promised the wonderful Tina from Discover Napoli Destinations that I would return so she could show me the best of Napoli and explain why the mantra of the local Napolitanos is “See Napoli and die.”

After that I am considering time to relax on the Amalfi Coast once more, since I never tire of the tranquility and stunning landscape of this area.

I will be in a couple of other places where I plan on visiting friends and family and also am building time in for another favorite Italian city ~ Venezia.

I especially anticipate wandering through the sestieri of Castello and Dorsoduro and hopefully lose myself in a calle without a care in the world.

Of course my camera will be my companion. Stay tuned for more updates.

So glad to hear it! I can’t wait for the next installments on Margie & Italy: will both survive?! They will be even better now that you are free to spend as much time and treasure as you have the energy to do.

Nice one Margie, Naples is amazing we loved it a lot and found it quite magical and beautiful with its noisy streets, its old “palazzi” still full of history. Enjoy! 🙂

I truly envy you! My family is from a small village 50 km east of Napoli called Pietrelcina. It was also the home for Saint Pio. Maybe you would find it interesting to visit?

Congratulations on your retirement and what a wonderful way to celebrate! I did exactly the same thing upon my retirement from teaching in 2012, then I went back last year and am going again this September. Totally hooked on Italy!

Excellent choice of pictures. I love the architecture. It says to me, “keep your world. We have been here forever and will be here when you are gone. We are the stability everyone wishes for but rushes around too much to have.” Yes it really does say that. And I am glad you are retiring. I did not see my retirement at all the way it turned out. But I am enjoying myself and know that you will as well because we know how to use time to our advantage. Something that many have to learn. And yes, it is hard to get over being the nurse to all. I still am but no longer take night call, ha ha. Who am I kidding, I got a call at 3 am just a week ago, “Can you talk?” Sure, the nurse is always in these days. PS Waiting for my book with coffee ready to go. My friends who also got a copy are out of town and will surely want a copy of Sicily.

Your book is on its way Bonnie and thank you again. I am sure you are being utilized in retirement for all your various skills! Glad you enjoyed the architecture photos!

Napoli is a wondeful town, full of surprises. May I suggest a little area just out of Napoli- Marechiaro- which faces Capri and nearby there is a wonderful restaurant, La Finestrella. perhaps you have been there already? Good luck with trying to lose yourself in Venice. Is this possible with 22 million visitors a year and only 60,000 residents?
margieinitaly
Thank you Francesca! I will make a note of your suggestion!!! Always good to know of a recommended place!

How exciting!! You will have lots of time to enjoy it.

Have safe and relaxing travels Margie.
Your photo of the Amalfi coast has a resemblance to Pittsburgh PA…on the sides of hills…
