It is summertime and I cannot think of a better way to experience that “feel-good” sensation than by watching this video by the famous Italian singer-songwriter, Jovanotti.I guarantee you will feel like getting up and dancing by the time the music ends.
I had heard of this Jovanotti but never really knew anything about him. Once I watched this video, called “Estate,” meaning Summer, my curiosity peaked, and I did a little research about this talented, successful performer. He is 46, soon to be 47, and his real name is Lorenzo Cherubini. The name Jovanotti comes from the plural form of the Italian word giovanotto (“young man”), i. e., giovanotti.
He was born in Rome but grew up in Cortona, in Tuscany. Yes that is the same place that Frances Mayes, author of Under the Tuscan Sun, lives part of the time. The same place where Bramasole is, the house made famous by that wonderful movie. He worked as a DJ in Rome and Milan and also is considered to be a hip-hop artist.
Jovanotti has sold over five million albums in Italy and performs at stadiums with sell-out crowds. He has recently moved to Greenwich Village in NYC with his family
Lyrics to Estate
Vedo nuvole in viaggio
e tutti i sensi li sento
inclinato come l’asse terrestre
voglio prendere il sole
è il programma del prossimo trimestre.
(RIT)
Come un’orbita la vita mia
gira intorno a un centro di energia,
sento il tuo respiro
che mi solleva
è una vita nuova.
Sento il mare dentro a una conchiglia,
Estate,
l’eternità è un battito di ciglia.
Tutto il mare è dentro una conchiglia,
l’eternità è un battito di ciglia.
E tutto il mondo è la mia
famiglia ooh
famiglia eeh.
Estate,
estate.
Ma che caldo
ma che caldo
ma che caldo fa.
Ma che caldo
in questa città
Lyrics to Summer:
I see clouds on the go
which have the shape of things that change,
I am a bit of courage
then if I think that things never stay,
as they are in the early
2013 a new solstice,
if I had not wanted to change today I would mineral state.
I throw, I throw myself into the arms of the wind, with the hands I’m doing a sail
and I hear them all the senses
brighter more vivid,
as if it were a roof antenna that receives signals from a perfect world.
(RIT)
I feel the sea inside a shell,
Summer,
eternity is a blink of an eye.
I feel the sea inside a shell,
Summer,
eternity is a blink of an eye.
I file files
and then archive the hard to share
do not ever reopen,
the past is past
for better or for worse.
Like a house of salt
built on the shore of the sea,
nothing is forever in time
equal.
I throw, I throw myself into the arms of the wind,
am I doing with my hands a sail,
airplanes with school books.
Over, for now
angle as the earth’s axis
I want to soak up the sun
is the program of the next quarter.
(RIT)
How to orbit my life
revolves around a center of energy,
I feel your breath
that lifts me
is a new life.
I feel the sea inside a shell,
Summer,
eternity is a blink of an eye.
Everything is inside a sea shell,
eternity is a blink of an eye.
And the whole world is my
ooh family
eeh family.
Summer,
summer.
But it’s hot
but it’s hot
but that is hot.
But it’s hot
in this city.

Hi, I found your blog on Twitter, recommended by Italian Talks. We’ve recently discovered Jovanotti too!
Lori Samarin
We actually had a LEONARDO’S Italian Link -Northern Palm Beach County event in attending the Jovanotti concert in Miami Beach last year( 2012), and those of us who attended had a great time! Sorry you missed it! He’s is full of energy and appeals to the 30-50’s crowd, who enjoy a mix of upbeat hip hop- rock and roll, Italian modern melodic infusion, etc…….. Join us next time Margie!

Oh I wish I had gone then. I do recall but didn’t realize what a great performer he is. Hopefully he will tour the US again later this year or in 2014. Otherwise I may have to go to Italy to see him!
