Sorrento is a wonderful place to use as a base on a visit to the Amalfi Coast. Not only is Sorrento a beautiful city with picturesque marinas, lively piazzas and magnificent churches, but its location is central for day trips along the Amalfi Coast.
From Sorrento it’s easy to take either a bus or a boat to Amalfi, Positano, Maiori and other places on that coastline. Hydrofoils and ferries leave Sorrento for Capri on a regular basis as well as to the larger city of Naples.
Even though I have been to Sorrento three times I am looking forward to returning there this spring as part of an itinerary to the Amalfi Coast, Sicily and Rome.
I had not planned on going back to Italy this soon but my brother Rick and my sister-in-law Monica invited me to join then, and as you know, it doesn’t take much to convince me. Most of the time will be in Sicily, where I have wanted to go and really spend about 10 days exploring. Of course the Amalfi Coast is my first love and we will be able to see Stage 3 of the 2013 Giro d’Italia while we are there. So cool, especially since my brother Rick is a cyclist. I had better get in shape since I know going with him I will be walking all day wherever we go. (SMILE)
