One of the most well-known and most photographed landmarks in Rome is the Trevi Fountain. It had been reported in June that part of its facade was falling and the Italian government had announced that it would need to be restored.

(ANSA) – Rome, August 27 – Rome’s famous Trevi Fountain has been drained to make way for repairs to its facade that lost several small pieces last June, Cultural Heritage Superintendent Umberto Broccoli said on Monday.
An overall “check up” will also be carried out to evaluate the extent of restoration needed for the capital’s archeological landmark immortalized in Fellini’s classic film La Dolce Vita, Broccoli said.

There is no indication as to how long the restoration process will take, but given that this is Italy, visitors can plan on seeing scaffolding and construction workers there for quite awhile.

It’s a lovely landmark. Glad we visited late last year. I would have been very disappointed if I’d found it drained and under reconstruction.

I remember Three Coins In the Fountain or something along those lines. Beautiful romance and very scandalous for that day and age. I am glad the mystery moves on. It seems many are taken by the idea of love overcoming the odds.
