I was fooling around on Google Maps and discovered that I could place this Google Map Aerial View of Rome on here and you are able to zoom in and see close-up views of the Colosseum and the rest of Rome too. It’s very interactive.
If you click on directions or “View Larger Map” and then zoom in you can get a really close-up view and see the Colosseum and the Arch of Constantine very clearly and move the map around to be able to see things as if you are there. I think it depends on the browser you are using, but to access all the features the best browser seems to be the latest version of Google Chrome, which is Google Chrome Beta. I couldn’t do it using Firefox.
Once you are zoomed into the map you are able to use the little icon of a pegman and move him into the map for a very close view. You can also move him around so the street views then cover a much larger area. I have to play around with this more and create some customized maps of places I have been in Italy. It is so cool that you can feel as though you are walking down those steep streets in some places!
I really like this! It is basically Google Maps GL but for some reason I didn’t realize that I could add it here and that it would work as if I did a search on Google. I wish I had known this while I was traveling. I could have put a map on here for every city I was in. Oh well, now I will know for next time. Check it out and let me know what you think. Stay tuned because I may be adding more of these maps, based on your responses to this short poll. Thanks for giving me your opinion.
