Sunday May 6
It’s still raining and it’s 45 degrees outside. Today we are taking the train to Verona and hopefully the weather will improve. I can’t believe how cold I feel. It’s probably the dampness along with the wind. In Florida it is 90 degrees now. It’s hard to process that right now even though I live there.
After a leisurely breakfast and packing we checked out of the very comfortable Hotel Metropole and bought one last boat ticket for the car/passenger ferry for €4.60 to go to Varenna to catch the train. Luckily the rain had stopped and we arrived with plenty of time to spare in Varenna.
We stopped in at a little place called l’Orso Bar next to the ferry dock where we could wait out of the rain and have a cappuccino. I caught up on my writing and before we left to walk the rest of the way to the train station we split a pizza with salami ( pepperoni pizza).
Sue showed them a picture from my phone to make sure she ordered what she wanted. It was one of the best pizzas I have had here!
When it was time to go it was not raining and we walked up the hill to the Varenna train station to wait for the train to Milano Centrale. We were early so we could get on without a problem with the luggage. Next stop Verona!

Cappucino is good with nearly everything. And pizza ah, pizza. The main diet of college students everywhere! I have never had a bad pizza but to have one in Italy, delightful. As to the temperature in Florida? It is 7:33 AM and already 83 degrees. Even I have to wait for the cooler evening hours to feed the horses and walk the dog. It will be this way and hotter between now and late in September. Thus I will have plenty of time to follow your travels in Italy via the blog. Bonnie D.
