Cinque Terre in Italy Devastated from Torrential Rain and Flooding

I am so saddened to read of the devastation in the Cinque Terre towns of Vernazza and Monterosso from the torrential rains and flooding. The area is so beautiful and I especially loved walking around Monterosso with my brother and sister-in-law and exploring the little streets and alleys of this fishing village where boats were parked in the streets.

My brother and I had lunch in the scenic town of Vernazza after a very challenging hike along the Cinque Terre trail and my first view of this town was from high above on the trail, and it made the hike so worth it!

I feel for the local people and also the shop owners whose livelihood has come to depend upon the tourists to this area.

I think the planet is angry with us. Even Ireland is having floods, when did you ever hear of Ireland having a flood problem? Between the earthquakes and the fires, and the floods and so on, yes, the planet is just angry with us and I can’t say as I blame Earth. I just feel for the people who suffer from the results of mismanagement by governments and land owners who contribute to the problem but not the solutions.

This is terrible! I was in Naples when the rain hit the north. When I left our river (Lima) was as low as I have ever seen it and now it is a raging torrent. I have’t heard of any damage here, but I only got back last night. I hope lovely Vernazza and Monterosso recover. Our Brisbane was badly affected by floods earlier this year, so I know the damage water can cause.
