Time to Enjoy Life

Tuesday April 19
It’s a beautiful sunny day in Siena and I’m sitting beneath a shade tree in the garden of my hotel as I write this. Earlier this morning I was awakened by the bells at the nearby Basilica of San Domenico (see photo below) at 7:00, so I left my hotel early, so that I could explore a little, and locate the bus station in Piazza Gramsci. I will be taking the bus in the days to come to make day trips to Florence, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, and other parts of Tuscany, yet to be decided. Two and a half hours later, I think it’s safe to say that I walked off my breakfast.

This afternoon I will be taking a side trip to Chianti and going on a tour of two wineries. It sounds like a fun time, and it was one of the places I had hoped to visit. Why not blend a little fun with education?

I really love having the time to amble around and not having to rush, taking photos and enjoying the moment. Every time I pass one of these large organized groups, with a leader holding a flag and reciting a history lesson, I am thankful not to be part of that. I like the freedom to do whatever feels good at the time, and with no time constraints. I am loving this experience!

I loved the sitting under the tree at the hotel thing. I do love soaking up the local color as it moves along side of my point in time.

I have to ask a crass question. Are you visiting any hospitals so that you can write it off? I mean, take a few notes and write a medical article on places for healthcare while overseas. Write off some portion of your trip. You did plan something like that didn’t you? It’s not too late! (I know, I am so crass. . )
