Lago di Como (Lake Como)

Twenty-two days and counting. All of a sudden it seems that I don’t have too much more time for planning, as I’ll be “leaving on a jet plane”  for bellissima Italia in three weeks!

I decided that I would like to see a little of the Lakes region, and having heard others talk about the beauty and tranquility of Lake Como, I am going there for a few days.

After reading many reviews and doing some research, I am taking the advice of Rick Steves on this one, and I have booked several nights in a hotel in the small lakeside village of Varenna.  Supposedly the views are fantastic and it seems like a nice place to get away from it all and relax, do some writing and enjoy the scenery.

Varenna is a town of 800 people and there are trains from Milan every one or two hours to this town. It is a walking village as everything supposedly is within a mile radius. It is also located alongside the lake, near the middle section of it, making it easy to hop on a ferry boat and travel to the other small lakeside towns, like Bellagio, Menaggio and of course, Como.

I am looking forward to an evening stroll along the passarella, a promenade which runs along the lake. I understand the ambience and views are incredible. Stay tuned for my photos.

Ah yes, the food, the ambience, new ties with the long ago past, people with a different point of view perhaps. . . I begin to envy this young travelor.

I'm always interested in your thoughts, so please leave a comment.
