This looks like a place I definitely intend to visit while I am in Italy. It’s a little off the beaten path, and although Carrara has traditionally become known as a tourist area, it’s not quite the same as the larger cities like Rome. After four days in Rome, I think it is a sure bet that I will be ready for something smaller, different, and less crowded.
Carrara has long been recognized as the world’s capital for the best marble.It was actually from these very quarries that came the single slab of marble used by Michelangelo to sculpt the extraordinary statue of David. Carrara is located in the Apuan Alps in Tuscany, and the white marble in the mountains has been described by many as looking like snow. I can’t wait to be able to see this amazing place first-hand. Seventy more days and counting!

Mouth watering, all that pure and beautiful marble. I love that stuff. I cannot imagine how one looks at a slab of marble and “sees” the form inside but I admire their talent. I suspect Margie is one that can see the beauty inside a slab of cold stone. Naturally she would be drawn to this place.
