I Am Going to Rome

posted in: Italy Travel Planning | 2

After thinking about things for not even a day, I decided that I did want to be part of this once in a lifetime event on May 1, when Pope John Paul II will be beatified at the Vatican. I have spent the past two days scrambling to find a room at an affordable price in Rome during that time. Of course anything  that  was available before the grand announcement is either no longer available, or else has doubled in price. In other words, rooms that were $250 a night are now $500 a night and more.

Luckily for me, I was able to secure 4 nights in Rome at a very affordable price, through  Monastery Stays, a booking company that arranges accommodations at convents and monasteries throughout Italy and other countries as well. It even includes breakfast.  This will be a new experience for me, although I am just thrilled to have a place in Rome! Now I am able to say that I will be one of the two million visitors expected in Rome on May 1st.

I will be writing more on that later, you can be sure.

  1. I bet you can’t wait. Hope you have a great time. I will be thinking of you and wishing I was there. Now that I’ve been walking almost everyday I could probably keep up with you. Sue

  2. Dear Margie,

Haven’t been on blog for a few days. David’s here for 5 days. Re Pisa: You certainly do your research well. When I climbed the Tower of Pisa, I was 8-10, no older and there was certainly none of those regulation. It is probably leaning more, much more…

I'm always interested in your thoughts, so please leave a comment.
